23 May 2026 – What an incredible night it was celebrating David Suzuki’s 90th birthday in Vancouver. His environmental work has spanned decades! Suzuki and the David Suzuki Foundation have made an impact around the globe. He was joined by so many friends that came to celebrate him. You may recognize some of the amazing talent that took the stage. Host George Stroumboulopoulos, Jane Fonda, Bruce Cockburn, Chantal Kreviazuk, Neil Young (surpise guest) & many more. It was truly a night to remember, and I loved being able to capture some of the moments through my lens.
Quote from David Suzuki:
“I’m honoured to get all this attention. But what’s most important to me — now more than ever — is safeguarding Earth. What I’ve always wanted — every day, not just in celebration of my birthday — is for people everywhere to act together on the understanding that we are one with nature.”
Here are some of the NGO’s (non-government organizations) that Bruce has supported over the years.
SeedChange (formerly USC Canada) promotes vibrant family farms, strong rural communities, and healthy ecosystems around the world. ( https://weseedchange.org/ )
The David Suzuki Foundation works with government, business and individuals to conserve our environment by providing science-based education, advocacy and policy work, and acting as a catalyst for the social change that today’s situation demands. ( www.davidsuzuki.org )
“Collateral Damage: Images of Those Left Behind by Suicide,” will be a book of portraits, a website and gallery exhibition, telling the stories of people who have lost loved ones through suicide. When I was 16, my father took his own life. Although I have always been honest and open about how he died, I often felt I was left to deal with my pain and recovery in solitude – my grief paralyzed by the social stigma associated with such an act. Even now, 27 years later, I still have so many questions.
Through this book of images, I hope to find some answers and at the very least, start a long, overdue conversation. ~ Scott Chisholm ( leftbehindbysuicide.org )
27 July 2014 – So by now you may have heard of David Suzuki’s National Blue Dot Tour. I’m proud to say that Bruce Cockburn will be joining David in Concert in Edmonton at the Winspear Theatre on October 28. This won’t be the first time Bruce has been involved in a show with David as about 10 years ago or perhaps even longer, they did a show together in Ottawa. [poster below]
The Blue Dot tour has an incredible number of great Canadian artists playing in different cities along the way including Neil Young, Feist, The Barenaked Ladies and Jim Cuddy. Check your local market to see who’s playing in your hometown or a town near you. Also attached is a postcard that will alllow to join the Blue Dot Movement and find out more about the event. ~ Bernie Finkelstein
